Support our front line workers and underserved community members. With a variety of yoga movement and meditation classes, our non-profit mission provide​s​ yoga benefits to local schools, day support programs, media outlets, local medical groups, churches and organizations that serve.

Recognizing how mental health and physical ability affect our world,​ we​ aim​ ​to foster physical resilience and mental fortitude dealing with daily circumstances. Having spent 2020 and 2021 experiencing the pandemic, our communities have changed​;​ in many ways our livelihood and security has been pulled out from under us.


Started as a free community yoga on Cville public access TV, Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville is a non-profit offering yoga ​from Amherst to Albemarle. We are yoga teachers who can be of service in challenging times.


Continuing programs with nursing home staff, intellectually disabled adults and veterans, we want to include low income/unemployed residents, local people seeking refuge as well as refugees from abroad, and people with mental stress or physical impairment.

We accept tax deductable donations, grant funding, and receive contributions in kind (i.e. studio rent). We are actively seeking commercial or public space in the Charlottesville area. Volunteer administrative/web and social media skill/fundraising efforts are especially appreciated.

Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville is a 501c3 non-profit working with Virginia Organizing, who administers our legal structure and collects our donations under the Joint Plans of Work. This is a fiscal sponsorship program that accepts financial contributions on our behalf. Contributions are addressed and made out to 'Virginia Organizing', with MMYC in the memo line.

STUDY: Research Reveals the Molecular Link Between Meditation and Well-Being.

Meditation helps activate the human immune system. Researchers from medical schools of 4 U.S. universities and a yoga and meditation center, were involved in a novel, comprehensive genomic study of how meditation affects the biological processes directly involved in disease development and discovered the immunity-boosting molecular mechanism underlying yoga practices. “We show that yoga and meditative practices enhance immune function without activating inflammatory signals. The study demonstrates that non-pharmaceutical interventions like yoga and meditation can voluntarily influence the immune system.” ~Vijayendran Chandrana, Professor of Pediatrics & Neuroscience, College of Medicine, University of Florida. Key immune systems and related pathways are dramatically upregulated without activating the inflammatory signals. Plus, the response to oxidative stress, detoxification, and cell cycle regulation pathways was downregulated. Oxidative stress plays an essential role in causing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Suppression of oxidative stress, as well as inflammation, is one of the central strategies for treating these diseases.

Our Services

We are a cohort of professional yoga and meditation teachers, and we welcome all holistic group practices, from collective drumming to tai chi, for possibilities to create a matrix of wellbeing. Our teachers support these non-profit efforts with our own private instruction for individuals and wellness programs for companies wanting to support workplace health and employee satisfaction.

Our Long Game

Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville is not only about physical range of motion and mental agility. Our practice of balance extends in ways that invite everyone, without criticism. Especially in times when we find ourselves separated into divisive political camps, religious exclusions and cultural disconnect, Mindful Mountain Yoga Cville finds ourselves as a refuge from judgement, a safe space where differences do not prevent us from sharing our practice together.
