A quiet and uncluttered space and an effective and time-efficient way to quiet the mind. It is a mindful sit, on either floor, blankets or chairs.

To be with others, letting go of cellphones and social posts every minute, to share listening inward. Meditation is part of group yoga class. Interested in meditation classes?

Meditation classes are popping up everywhere:

Meditation, more than 5,000 years old, is reintroduced into popular culture. Mindfulness resonates as a response to modern life. The physical and emotional benefits of meditation — lowered anxiety, improved immune system, better sleep, are acknowledged in medical journals, and have people relating on a personal level to stress relief, a chance to relax and look inward.

Meditation helps us slow down and shift into neutral. Our nervous system lets go of constant engagement. This is an excellent way to let our mind function better and find meaning beyond our “to do" list”.

“Meditation brings me serenity and helps me deal with the things out of my control.”

People who have heart disease or high blood pressure, or are just plain worn out, are meditating because of the health benefits.

People sit together, banker next to farmer, next to a working single mom. A sense of community — and freedom from distraction — draws people together. Many people don’t have physical space for an area to meditate, and have personal distractions. Having a dedicated space to go to meditate brings the practice to life. It’s nice for people to come to a quiet, familiar space and meditate

Charlottesville (Ready this summer)

We offer retreat lodging- one or two days of Vipassana meditation practices. You will receive individual instruction during the retreat, with time to rest and enjoy the surroundings.

Vipassana means to see clearly or beyond, to see the true nature of things as they really are. The walking and sitting meditation is a practical technique training the mind to be aware of the present moment at all times. The Vipassana meditation enables us to incorporate mindfulness into our daily life.

Continued practice develops insights, allowing confidence, energy and effort, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom to arise, enabling more compassion.

Vipassana meditation helps find peace and happiness by seeing perceptions of ourselves very clearly. Generally, perception is often distorted by different patterns of the mind like greed, anger, doubt, fear, and delusion. With mindfulness, we witness the arising of these hindrances. We acknowledge them and then let them go by bringing attention inside the meditation practice. Insights shows that all these experiences are transient (impermanent).
